The vegies are growing well.

Dam level is falling. First picture of the 'new' front gates on these pages.

01 September 2006

The dam is full

On a still clear morning. The dam is about as full as it's going to get.

22 August 2006

25 mm of rain overnight

Water pooling at Phil and Janet's block.

Flooding at the front part of my block.

After much more rain

Saturday evening - the dam is full!

Last thursday - filling up.

Hired an excavator to dig holes etc. This is after two hours of cleaning to get the mud off.

After the rains

Above: early Thursday morning.

Above: Sunday midday, with another 200mm in the dam. Update Monday morning: water level it up to the next rung on the ladder.

Things are growing

New vegies (broccoli and red cabbage) to add to the onion, leek, silverbeet, rhubard & beetroot.
One of the new trees around the dam.

Dam filling up with water

Water depth is 300 to 400mm, before rain of Saturday night. (update: 8/8/06 - over 500mm deep)

The drains I dug out on Saturday.

24 July 2006

Foggy morning

A foggy dawn.

Horses next door.

Phil and Janet's shed through the fog (sorry, slightly out of focus).

A truck was bogged overnight next door.

Painted jetty

Handrails complete, and first coat of paint on the jetty.

Fruit trees and driveway

Six fruit trees: Granny Smith apple, Sundowner apple, nectarine, Imperial madarine, Valencia orange and Tahatian lime.

The driveway to the house has been dug out to hold old bricks and rocks from demolition sites; this will be a good base for the limestone.

Progress on jetty

The jetty is almost finished. About 2 metres wide, and 6 metres long. 2 metres from the bottom of the dam to the deck.

A ladder is going to go on the left, and railings have to be fitted.

Pole to support the outlet of the fountain, and measure the depth.

Fruit trees and jetty

Four fruit trees planted - apple, nectarine, mandarine and orange.

John, from down the road, came on Saturday to rip the soil and mound it for the trees that will be planted next month. One more row around the property and two rows across about 1/3rd and 2/3rds down. He did the job in about an hour.

All the fill was spread last Tuesday by Len.

The jetty takes shape

23 semi-loads of fill ready to spread out.

More work on the dam

A bit dark, but you can see the semi-loads of soil brought in Friday and Saturday. 4 or 5 more arrving today (Monday). Will cover the area by about 100mm.

A start to the jetty.
Two 100x100mm poles, with another two going half way up (holes already there), and two at the top. Total length will be about 6 metres, and 2 metres wide.

20 April 2006

Digging the dam

6.45am - just light. Mounds of dirt from the new hole in the ground. It will be spread out by a bulldozer in a couple of weeks to a depth of 200mm, and then a 100m layer of sandy fill will go over the top of that.

Standing on the excavator. The hole is about 2m deep, and at this stage about 15 x 15 metres. The sides will be at 30 degrees, and the final size will be about 20 x 28 metres.
Could not go much deeper than 2m because the water table is just below that, and it's very salty water.
